Weather Channel for iPhone, iPod touch

Unless you live in Southern California, ie no weather, the iPhone’s default weather app just doesn’t cut it. Here in Erie, PA, Winter is real and weather reporting is all about highly subtle local variation.

That said, whereas you can get the Weather Channel via their web portal at Weather.com, cable’s leading forecaster has also gone to the trouble of creating an iPhone application that delivers a user customizable presentation that includes video forecasts from the broadcaster’s signature cable programming—the same forecast you were watching TV. Just pop in your ZIP code and you get just about instant access to the mini, 10 and 36 hour, and 10 day forecasts, as well as the aforementioned video, which is impressively clear and smooth.

Moreover, the Weather Channel for iPhone provides local alerts and allows you to send forecasts, alerts and other info by email.

Best of all? It’s free.
