Apple netbook touch panel deal inked
The Cupertino, CA-based maker of the Macintosh has said it has ‘interesting ideas’ for embracing and extending the netbook concept. Do they need to go in that direction when the iPod touch is already so capable?
Quoting Taiwan’s enigmatic Commerical Times, DigiTimes reports that OEM panel maker Wintek will purportedly supply touch assemblies for Apple-branded new netbook with shipments to start in the third quarter this year, though no specific timing has been worked out.
Thereupon, Quanta Computer, which already produces the MacBook, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, will assemble the new netbook.
Believable? Taiwan’s Commercial Times has a somewhat spotty record on Apple rumors—oft spot on, oft just plain wrong.
Whatever the case, an Apple-branded netbook will likely be quite unlike anything we’ve seen to date and it’s starting point will probably be the iPod touch, which is to this pundit’s eye already the gold standard in ultra portable computing…
