OLED based mini notebook, iPhone said ‘confirmed’

Another day, another twist to the Apple netbook story, a product I doubt will ever see the light of day. The latest wrinkle comes from ChannelNews (Oz), which claims that the mothership will soon launch a number of LG (Korea) OLED based products:

Apple is set to launch new OLED notebooks and flat panel monitors along with a new OLED iPhone claim sources at LG in Korea … have working prototype of a new Netbook which will be manufactured in Taiwan…

ChannelNews cites Apple’s $500 million upfront payment for new LG display products, an investment made about a year ago, as corroboration.

FairerPlatform has previously reported that the rumored iPod touch on steroids will be OLED based.

Editor’s note: I can see Apple creating handhelds built around energy efficient OLED display technology. However, it’s difficult nigh on impossible to believe an Apple netbook or mini notebook that includes OLED. Things change, but I don’t think the tech is there yet. Also, DigiTimes was one of the earliest sources of the OLED / handheld rumor…

What’s your take?

Also, another rumor from DigiTimes, a better known and likely more reliable publication than ChannelNews, states that Apple has ordered 10″ panels for use in a mini notebook.
