Legacy Recordings (via Fox Business) reports that The Essential Michael Jackson, a career-spanning collection of must-have Michael Jackson tracks, hit #1 on the Billboard Top Pop Catalog albums chart while riding into the iTunes Store Top 10 top-selling albums chart.

This tome is actually a pretty good buy includes 38 tracks, spanning his entire career including the Jackson 5 years, for $16.99 which works out to about 45¢ per track. Interestingly the Amazon MP3 store price is exactly the same.

Earlier this month, Michael Jackson announced that he would perform his first series of full concerts in more than a decade, a residency at London’s 02 Arena, the largest indoor concert facility in Europe.

Note that Jackson’s record label chose to use a photograph (above right) of the singer from ’80s, long before the nose, skin, bankruptcies, baby dangling and legal troubles.
