Wintek named as ‘iPod touch on steroids’ panel supplier

Adobe
Yesterday, I wrote a piece about an odd state of affairs regarding Wintek’s Taiwanese labor union protesting the treatment of Chinese workers at the company’s Chinese factories. Today, a shoe of a completely different, though nevertheless interesting size and color has dropped.

DigiTimes reports that Silicon Isle rumor mill posits that Wintek has been tapped to manufacture the flat panels to be used in Apple’s long-rumored (and much hoped for) “iPod touch on steroids”:

Wintek has been selected as the panel module supplier for Apple’s upcoming e-book form factor netbook product, according to Taiwan notebook related IC designers.

This news is particularly interesting since DigiTimes had previously confirmed that Apple’s Mac touch (aka steroid touch) would use an OLED panel to be made by Samsung.

Further, “related IC designers” is a rather interestingly cryptic reference, don’t you think? The easy guess for chipset supplier, especially video related, is nVidia. Have the boys at nVidia—always a leaky lot them—let the cat out of the bag?

Curiouser and curiouser these affairs seem…
