NeoOffice 3.0.1 puts your documents in the cloud

The best version of OpenOffice for the Mac goes mobile, which allows users to publish documents to the cloud and view them on an iPod touch or iPhone. This release also quashes a file locking bug and gains OS X 10.6 compatibility.

Planamesa has announced the release of NeoOffice 3.0.1. This Mac only version of the open-source OpenOffice productivity suite gains important new functionality in addition to existing Mac only features, such as Services support, floating tool windows, trackpad gestures and OS X grammar checking.

Welcome to the cloud

The big new marquis in this release is NeoOffice Mobile, which a way to securely share NeoOffice files with other users and other computers, as well as any web-enabled phone including the iPhone and iPod touch (browser). It works by allowing the user to publish a document from within NeoOffice to the NeoOffice Mobile server using a secure, encrypted connection.

Once documents are published (ie in the cloud), they can be viewed using secure connections from regular web browsers or web-enabled mobile devices. Also, for NeoOffice users with NeoOffice Mobile installed, previously published documents can be opened directly in NeoOffice.

NeoOffice 3.0.1 fixes issues created by the release OS X 10.6, allowing users of Apple’s latest operating system to install and use this package. Also, native file locking support has been restored in the wake of OpenOffice 3.0 changes made by Sun.
