iPhone OS 3.1.3 patches bugs, plugs security holes

Apple has released a fresh version, weighing in at a gingerly 251MB, of the iPhone OS for the iPhone and iPod touch. Version 3.1.3 includes a range of garden variety bug fixes and patches for some fairly serious security issues.

Fixes and features iPhone OS 3.1.3 include:

• Improves accuracy of reported battery level on iPhone 3GS
• Resolves issue where third-party apps would not launch in some instances
• Fixes bug that may cause an app to crash when using Japanese Kana keyboard.

Also, as mentioned in the lead, iPhone OS 3.1.3 also includes patches for five important security issues as detailed in this knowledge base article.

To download iPhone OS 3.1.3, tether your iPhone or iPod touch to your Mac, start iTunes, select your device in the tray and then click the Summary pane. Therein you’ll see “Check for Update,” click it and follow the onscreen instructions.
