Apple bans Fox News over hate merchant Glen Beck
There’s no question that Apple and its CEO, Steve Jobs, are among the most liberal in the technology business. Contrariwise, Fox News is better known as a conservative cheerleader than as a news organization. And, now, never the twain shall meet.
The Washington Post reports that Apple, along with a couple hundred other advertisers, are boycotting Glen Beck’s Fox News daily 5 o’clock program:
More than 200 companies have joined a boycott of Beck’s program, making it difficult for Fox to sell ads. The time has instead been sold to smaller firms offering such products as Kaopectate, Carbonite, 1-800-PetMeds and Goldline International. A handful of advertisers, such as Apple, have abandoned Fox altogether. Network executives say they believe they could charge higher rates if the host were more acceptable to advertisers.
As noted, in Apple’s case, the boycott extends to all Fox News programming, which shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone.
That said, although I’m neither a progressive nor conservative, I have unbridled contempt for Beck, and his bitterly divisive words and antics. Thereupon, I was a Carbonite affiliate until right now — they’re gone.
So, although I have done a search and replace for their ads, etc, if you find any Carbonite links or ads on this site, drop me a note in the comments of that post and I’ll be sure to expunge the offending material.
Where do you stand?
Fox news fair & balanced is a crock and has been for a long time, and gained notoriety during the Bush years. It is apparent that there is a huge block of right wing support paying the network and people like Beck, Reilly, tons of money to preach their hatred and contempt. It is amazing that Beck could on his show plan how he might eliminate a left wing politico and no one has had the idiot arrested.
There is a class war going on and the working man has lost. We need laws changed that punish white collar criminals as severely as any other criminal act. There is enough money in this country to take care of most of our problems however there are too many hands in the pot as the old saying goes. God help this country, I hope we can change the atmosphere in this great country.
