iPad nation: 1-million plus and growing

We bear the mark of a fine herd — the not so few, the down right cocky, the iPad user.

Chitika has announced that it believes that Apple has sold more than one-million iPads. Granted, this is an estimate based on actual iPads observed online and a bit of mathematical voodoo, a methodology that the company regularly updates, but it’s the most realistic measurement we’ve got until Apple tells us otherwise.

By way of comparison, PC makers sold fewer than 14 million Windows-based tablets in 2009. What influence the iPad will have — cumulative or cannibalistic — on this market is anything but clear, though at least one large hospital (a tablet friendly market) is already going iPad in a big way.

Whatever the case, if iPad unit volume has indeed hit seven figures, look for Apple to mark the occasion with a press release.
