Star Trek Comics for iPad update brewing

Comics formatted for Apple’s hot-selling tablet computer are now available via the in-app store. Additionally, Star Trek Comics’ maker has said a performance and stability update has been submitted to the App Store, and is awaiting approval from Apple.

I recently posted a review of IDW Publishing’s Star Trek Comics 1.5 (free, iTunes) for iPod touch and iPhone — it’s a good app and the price is, of course, right.

However, at the time, I couldn’t review the iPad version because I had problems finding and downloading iPad formatted comics. Well, I got a reply from IDW regarding that issue and some welcome news about a soon-to-be-released update:

We have a new update that should be available any time — it’s in approvals at Apple. Developers didn’t have actual iPads to test on until they shipped … We’ve been working to correct any problems and have sent our update within 3 days of launch.

When that is available, please install and it should take care of the problems you have had. The update includes improvements in performance and stability. Comics all display at correct resolution. If any previously downloaded comics are at a lower resolution, delete the book and re-download (you will not be charged).

You should be able to download the correctly sized versions of the books … that is corrected even without the update.

That said, iPad compatible comics are now available via Star Trek Comics 1.5 for iPad’s in-app store and they look great — Art is displayed crisply and navigation is easy. It’s free and there are three free comics — Star Trek Alien Spotlight: Borg, Star Trek Countdown Number One, Star Trek Year Four — that are great.

Check it out…
