Here’s another sign that Mac gaming is catching with the PC, EVE Online Tyrannis, is now available — day and date with the Windows version.

Tyrannis, the 13th free update of the Eve franchise, makes it possible for capsuleers (individual ship commanders) to control what goes on on the surface of the planets they’re orbiting. Also, capsuleers can now scan the surfaces of planets for structures and develop resources for (fun and) profit.

Described as “a player-driven persistent-world massively multiplayer online role-playing game set in a science fiction space setting,” you’re one little ship that could make a difference in a war affecting the entire universe. That’s rather heady spin, but Eve Online is massive with more than 300,000 players in 230 countries.

There’s a 14-day free trial. Needless to say, you’ll need a solid broadband connection if for nothing other than to download this 2.95GB game.

Lastly, check out Capsuleer for iPhone (iTunes, free), a character management tool for Eve Online.
