Musicnotes.comSingle of the WeekHurtful sounds like it comes from the mouth and pen of a college graduate who supplemented his modern rock record library with soul classics white at university and wrote some universally appealing songs after being out of school for a few years. Discovery Download — Press Play, and the Brooklyn-based Sleigh Bells will hurl captivating post-punk noise pop through your rattling speakers. On Infinity Guitars, guitarist Derek Miller wields a fuzzed-out, power-chord riff that slices through clomping drums (reminiscent of Pharrel gone lo-fi), while Alexis Krauss chants seemingly abstract lyrics — punctuated with a catchy, melodic “Ahh-ahh-ahh.” The duo’s energy is electric and the rhythms might initially be startling, but it’s similar to M.I.A. — who signed Sleigh Bells to her record label — in that both acts can turn something unexpected into a pleasantly mind-blowing audible assault.

Canción de la Semana — Long before synthesizers were fashionable in Latin music, Moenia pioneered Mexican electronica in the early ’902 specializing in a distinctly new wave sound.
