Still no Beatles? Blame EMI, says Sir Paul

Download 25 FREE songs at eMusic.com!Ever since the iTunes Music Store opened for business back in 2003, the question of when the Beatles catalog would be available has remained unanswered. Unfortunately, a resolution doesn’t appear to near.

The BBC reports that the Beatles probably won’t be appearing for sale on the iTunes Music Store any time soon and Sir Paul McCartney doesn’t mince words about who’s to blame.

“It’s been business hassles”, he said. “Not with us, or iTunes. It’s the people in the middle, the record label. There have been all sorts of reasons why they don’t want to do it.

“To tell you the truth I don’t actually understand how it’s got so crazy,” said Sir Paul. “I know iTunes would like to do it, so one day it’s going to happen.”

For its part, EMI insists it’s working hard to sort out the situation, saying that “Discussions are ongoing. We would love to see The Beatles’ music available for sale digitally.”

With EMI and the other record labels still bleeding customers and sales, the Beatles catalog is one of their last aces in hole. That said, EMI’s probably trying to squeeze Apple for better terms.

Should the Beatles get better terms than Madonna, Led Zeppelin, Lady Gaga or The Eagles?

Few still care and the longer they wait the few who will care. Most who want the Beatles music have either ripped it from other media ir got it from the internet. If and when the Beatles music makes it to iTunes sales will be no where close to what they could have been. Basically they have missed the sweet spot.

I’m 52, the target demographic for releasing Beatles music.

    Don’t
    Care

The time has passed. EMI, you will make nothing on the catalog, your greed caused you to wait to long, and lose.

Low bit-rate downloads have zero appeal, whether it’s the Beatles or the Berlin Philharmonic.

I rip what I want from my own CDs in Apple Lossless.

    It’s too late.

I already have the Beatles on iTunes, ripped from my CDs, bought decades ago.

No new income for Paul, unfortunately.

    Blame it on EMI.

    Squeezing Apple for better terms?

As if there are Beatles fans left on the planet that haven’t ripped their Beatles CDs yet. Who will buy premium digital tracks when even the remastered CDs are on discounted sale everywhere?

Looks like I’ll have to rip my old original Parlophone and Apple Records vinyl! (not ’60′s vintage, but purchased new in the ’80′s.) They had the best sound! Those old Parlophones sounded WAY better than their American counterparts. I found out the hard way, by buying crappy Capitol records before going for the English versions.

Ever noticed how the songs on “1,” that orange CD of singles that came out some years ago, sound thin compared to the same songs that are on their CD’s? They do (not all the songs on the “1″ CD are on other CDs).
