For my money, this is head and shoulders above the crowd best (free) antivirus solution for the fairer platform. Since being completely rewritten in Objective C (Java is gone), ClamXav is pretty darned fast and updated with reassuring frequency — it’s so good, I forget it’s set up to run every week.
Mark Allen has announced the release of ClamXav 2.0.6, which is a maintenance release pure and simple.
New stuff in this release:
• Scanning engine updated to ClamAV 0.96.1
• Added ability to download just the differences to virus definition files rather than dowloading the whole file each time.
• Fixed a bug caused if an exclude setting is left empty but enabled.
• Fixed issues preventing ClamXav Sentry from launching at log in.
• Improved stability in ClamXav during scans.

New stuff in this release:
Be advised that the malware database it uses seems to be not quite up to date with the latest Mac malware. See http://mac-security.blogspot.com/2009/07/quickie-reviews-of-clamxav-iantivirus.html (it’s an old entry, but there seems to be no news of it getting better).
If you read the review through, ClamXav’s author noted the deficiencies and saw to it that the definitions got updated. So, as of that writing, ClamXav was greatly improved if not 100 percent.
Can anyone point to more recent testing?
