Tip: Annoying Facebook ads? FaceBlock ‘em!

Poison, pleasure or a toxic mix of both, Facebook seems designed to elicit a strong reaction. Perhaps the scariest thing about the world’s number one social networking site is the advertisements, which targeted just a little too personally. Here’s a way to make them disappear and fade completely, blissfully to white.

When Apple officially announced Safari 5 with extensions, the company also said this functionality wouldn’t be available until later this Summer. However, developers and users have taken matters into their own hands, launching an ad hoc beta.

Thereupon, one of the most popular new Safari extensions is FaceBlock, which cleans up the social networking site, removing those annoying targeted ads.

To install, you will first need to enable extensions:

• Go to Preferences > Advanced and enable the Develop menu
• Close preferences and click Develop > Enable Extensions
• Download FaceBlock and then double-click to install.

Thereupon, check out The Apple Blog’s 25 Safari Extensions You Can Install Now. As the Safari 5 extensions program hasn’t officially launched, none of the extensions currently available here or elsewhere have been vetted by Apple — caveat emptor.
