2010 Mac mini HDMI port: What you need to know
Apple has posted the Mac mini (Mid 2010): Frequently asked questions about HDMI, which covers the basics about the high-definition video out port built into the company’s new “living room ready” super quiet, efficient and definitely Blu-ray free desktop (or entertainment center) computer. Here are a few of the points I found the most edifying:
• HDMI stands for High Definition Multimedia Interface and is an industry standard for connecting high-definition audio and video devices.
• Mac mini (Mid 2010) works with HDMI and a Type A connector.
• The 2010 Mac mini’s HDMI port supports up to 1080p on HDMI connections. With the HDMI to DVI adapter, the HDMI port will work with resolutions up to 1920 x 1200.
• Apple supports 8-channel 24-bit audio at 192kHz, Dolby Surround 5.1 and stereo output
So, yes, the 2010 Mac mini’s HDMI port handles audio, which one of the unanswered questions I had back when it came out and, as we all learned by watching G.I. Joe, “knowing is half the battle.”
Now all I need to know is where I can get the $699 plus tax to buy one…
