Firefox 4 beta 2 puts Mac tabs on top

Considered to be stable and safe enough for daily use a fresh beta of Mozilla’s best-loved open-source browser is now walking the streets and it’s looking sassy. Tabs are now on top for the Mac and now even more international users can enjoy this whole-number update in their native tongues.

Mozilla has announced the immediate availability of Firefox 4 beta 2 (release notes), which running pretty smoothly but comes with the caveat that few if any of your favorite add-ons will work.

Here’s the new stuff specific to beta 2:

• Available in 24 languages
• Tabs are now on top by default on Windows and OSX; Linux is coming soon
• Turn any tab into an “App Tab” by right-clicking it, selecting “Make into App Tab”
• Web developers can animate content using CSS Transitions
• Responsiveness, scrolling improvements from the new retained layers layout system
• JavaScript speed improvements due to engine optimizations
• Changes how XPCOM components are registered for faster startup time, process separation
