It’s real: Magic Trackpad shipping for $69

In addition to refreshed iMacs, as well as in-the-wings Cinema Display and Mac Pros, Apple has released the Magic Trackpad (Apple Store, $69). This long-rumored product brings the mothership’s rapidly evolving gesture-based input repertoire to the desktop.

The new Magic Trackpad is the first Multi-Touch trackpad designed to work with your Mac desktop computer. It uses the same Multi-Touch technology you love on the MacBook Pro. And it supports a full set of gestures, giving you a whole new way to control and interact with what’s on your screen.

Swipe, scroll, tap, double tap, gesture at will, me hearties — all of these movements are increasingly familiar thanks to the iPhone, iPod touch, iPad and, of course, Apple’s multi-gesture trackpad equipped MacBooks, etc. The Magic Trackpad is yet another step down the road to a mouse-free world.

With a range of 33 feet and huge range of user-configurable options, this could be one of those quiet Apple revolutions…
