Yahoo Mail goes HTML5 for iPad

Another significant chunk o’ the old school web is now not just iPad friendly but down right welcoming. Web mail giant Yahoo is offering an HTML5 optimized mobile version of Yahoo Mail designed to take best advantage the iPad’s (relatively speaking) ginormous display.

“If you’ve used our recently launched HTML5 mobile Web mail for iPhone you’ll feel right at home. We’ve kept all the things users love about our new mobile Web mail experience, while also optimizing for the gorgeous large screen of the iPad” — Lee Parry, Product Manager, Yahoo Mail.

I dashed off a quick missive to myself as a test and found the interface to be immediately familiar (i.e. Apple’s iPad Mail). No, it’s not nearly as feature rich, but a nice departure from straight web mail nonetheless.

Thereupon, Yahoo’s says the HTML5 iPad version of Mail is faster, more reliable and smart. However, a late night attempt to contact the web giant about the updated service’s espresso making and hedge trimming functionality went unanswered…
