Arr! MacScan be a free download [today only]

Yesterday was International Talk Like a Pirate Day and that being Sunday (i.e. not a workday), I’m sure lots of folks are probably honoring that holiday today. Thereupon, SecureMac is offering their anti-spyware application for the fairer platform free to all comers with the caveat that it must be registered by midnight tonight.

MacScan 2.7 is a rather straightforward proposition — you’ve got a blacklisted cookie scan that you can use remove blacklisted tracking cookies without losing all your saved usernames and passwords. And, because unsavory people trying to track you are always trying new stuff, MacScan’s spyware definitions are regularly updated.

Now, before you start feeling all warm and fuzzy about SecureMac, you should take note of the fact that a whole number update (i.e. you’ll pay for that, $30) is probably not too far off and the company doesn’t make payroll on goodwill alone.

Get your free copy of MacScan 2.7 here (5.1MB) and be sure to activate it before midnight.
