Gotta a non-Apple smartphone or mp3 player, but wanna load music from your iTunes library? Then you need to check out the open-source community’s jukebox application. Thereupon, a freshly updated version of the best back door into your Mac’s music library has arrived with support for even more devices, except for the iPod, iPhone or iPad — go figure.

It’s compatible with Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Mac OS X 10.5.x and Mac OS X 10.6.x and supports a range of devices that aren’t made by Apple. iPod, iPhone and iPad? Not so much.

Now, comes Songbird 1.8 (release notes), adds even more new devices, like the Storm:

• Support for device synchronization on Mac OS X via the MSC add-on
• A complete visual and behind-the-scenes overhaul of the Service Pane
• Support for the following devices:
– BlackBerry Storm
– HTC Evo
– HTC Magic
– HTC Tattoo
– LG KU990i Viewty
– Nokia N85
– Nokia N96
– Nokia N97
– Sony Ericsson W980

Get Songbird 1.8 here (20.5MB).

One thing that I use Songbird for is album art. It will embed the art in the id3 tag, unlike how iTunes does it.

Hey! I got an idea.. let’s drop support for the most popular device in the world!

While I’m at it.. I should just kick myself in the nuts!
