Office updates o’plenty: Microsoft, OpenOffice, ThinkFree

It seems that fewer and fewer companies are providing release notes concurrently with their software, especially maintenance updates. Perhaps it’s a tacit realization on their part that few people apply patches and fewer still bother to read about what’s new. Whatever the case, all four top office productivity suites for the Mac have recently been updated.

• Office 2004 11.6.2
— This update improves security. It includes fixes for vulnerabilities that an attacker can use to overwrite the contents of your computer’s memory with malicious code.

OpenOffice 3.3.0 RC1, download (many choices)
— If you can read geek, check out the release notes
— For the avant garde only, LibreOffice

ThinkFree Office 4.0.1480.94, 52.8MB
— It’s an update, but I can’t find any documentation, so caveat emptor.

And, just because I have to mention the best open-source office productivity suite for the Mac, NeoOffice 3.1.2 shipped last month with some very exciting security and stability fixes baked in.

I agree w/ you…NeoOffice is the best of the bunch! It’s relatively fast and can be highly customized yet not cluttered or bloated like Microsoft’s offering.

And the “free” (although I donate regularly) aspect just puts it over the top.
