Apple releases OS X Lion dev preview

Again, the rumors come true. Apple has rolled out a developer preview of Mac OS X Lion and there are tons of details for pore over with build outs of features the company introduced last Fall, as well as updated versions of the apps we love.
As expected, Apple has released a developer preview of Mac OS X Lion. The company’s saying this latest iteration of the operating system “takes some of the best ideas from iPad and brings them back to the Mac,” a continuation of their Back to Mac theme introduced last Fall.
“The iPad has inspired a new generation of innovative features in Lion,” said Philip Schiller, senior vice president, Worldwide Product Marketing. “Developers are going to love Mission Control and Launchpad, and can now start adding great new Lion features like full screen, gestures, Versions and Auto Save to their own apps.”
Mac OS X Lion features Mission Control (a unification of Exposé, Dashboard, Spaces, and full screen apps), Launchpad (find and launch any app) and full-screen apps, as well as new Multi-Touch gestures and fluid animations.
Additional new features in the Mac OS X Lion developer preview include:
• OS X Mail 5 — an elegant, widescreen layout iPad inspired client with support for Microsoft Exchange 2010
• AirDrop — a simple way to copy files wirelessly from one Mac to another with no setup
• Versions — automatically saves successive versions of your document as you create it, and gives you an easy way to browse, edit and even revert to previous versions;
• Resume — conveniently brings your apps back exactly how you left them when you restart your Mac or quit and relaunch an app
• Auto Save — automatically saves your documents as you work;
• FileVault — provides high performance full disk encryption for local and external drives, and the ability to wipe data from your Mac instantaneously; and
• Mac OS X Lion Server — makes server set up easier and adds support for managing Mac OS X Lion, iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices.
