Fireplace apps for your Mac

Ah a bear rug, bottle of bubbly, whale song CD playing and crackling fire brings to mind fond, fond memories. But enough talk about romance lost, you’ve got a Mac and time to make. Whereas I can’t help you lay hands on comfy animal skins or champaign, I do have links for the those sonorous cetaceans (iTunes, $9.99) and two free fireplace apps for your Mac.

Fireplace (MAS) puts a crackling, flaming log resting above a shimmering bed of coals — I am relaxed and in the mood. Moreover, this little app will run fullscreen in your second monitor, providing psychic if not actual warmth and plenty o’ real glow.

Fireplace Free (MAS) is likewise free, though the loop transition isn’t nearly as smooth. Also, when running on my second monitor, it kills LiteSwitch, the fine app switcher I’ve used since Classic OS days.

Still, you may find that the multi-log blaze of Fireplace Free preferable.

That said, in addition to these two freebies, there are a further five fireplace apps available on the Mac App Store and they all sell for $0.99…
