There are many DVD ripping applications available for the Mac, each with its own group of dedicated users. In the case of Little App Factory’s RipIt, you can count Macworld (Editors’ Choice) and Daring Fireball’s John Gruber among those who love it.

By all appearances, RipIt 1.5.4 (v.1.5.4 h already been released) is just a humble point release, though this particular update comes to market with a dozen new features, as well as 13 changes and fixes under the hood, including the ability to directly rip (via a Handbrake integration) Android and PSP compatible video files — pretty cool.

• Added preference to turn disc patching on/off
• Added compress target, Android Phone
• Added compress target, PSP
• Added simple tooltip messages to explain Rip and Compress buttons
• Added Chinese to preferred language list
• Added Swedish/Svenska to preferred language list

• Added preference to auto start ripping OR compressing
• Added movies folder path to disk space warning dialogs
• Added compress preference to delete after importing to iTunes
