Angry Birds teams with ‘Rio’

When the juices are flowing, clever just seems second nature or that’s the way things are going at Rovio Mobile, the fabulous Finns behind the blockbuster Angry Birds franchise. What started as a wickedly addictive mobile game and branched out into plush toys — they’re so fluffy! — has now gone Hollywood.

So, Rio is a new animated feature from 20th Century Fox that’s all about birds abused and fighting back. Rather than pigs, however, this time around smugglers are the baddies and Angry Birds developer Rovio sensed the synergies — sort of like the collector’s edition drinking glasses at McDonald’s, but remade for the 21st Century without the threat of a lead paint recall.

How’s that working out? Well, the Mac ($4.99), iPhone ($0.99) and iPad ($2.99) versions of Angry Birds Rio are already number ones on their respective App Stores.

Additionally, Angry Birds Rio is available on the Amazon App Store (free).

Whether or not this fine feathered sponsorship deal that could only have been forged in Hollywood bears big juicy fruit — Porsche, Summer home, trust fund — the word “brilliant” leaps to mind nonetheless…

What’s your take?
