Just in case. Though Apple’s iWork meets my rather limited office productivity needs, I keep a copy of Planamesa’s excellent open source NeoOffice in my app folder. With Mac OS X Lion coming this Summer and many if not most Mac geeks already using the beta, it’s good to know this Microsoft Office alternative is keeping pace.

NeoOffice 3.2 beta (feature listing) is now available and, whereas the rest of the world seems to waiting for Apple’s next-gen desktop operating system, this Mac-only office productivity suite already offers Lion-ready features.

• New Mac OS X 10.7 Lion compatible code:
— Text layout and rendering
— Copy and paste
— Drag and drop

Expanded font support — Now uses Apple’s “CoreText” text layout and rendering functions

Reduced PDF file sizes — Exported files are now 50 to 75 percent smaller

In related news, NeoOffice 3.1.2 Patch 5 has just been released, as well.
