Firefox 4.0.1, Thunderbird 3.1.1 offer security, stability fixes

Security and stability together? Sounds like a perfect marriage match except for the simple fact that both apps will soon be updated for the same things in a week or three, which sounds quite a bit like my marriage. Come on inside for the reasons why it will work this time around.

What happened to the “Check for Updates Now” menu item in Firefox 4? Safari doesn’t have an “update” menu item, but that’s a different update mechanism tied in with OS X. I’m guessing Mozilla removed choice and set “Automatically download and install the update” (above) as the default option to keep people from putting off installing the latest version(s).
For its part, Chrome offers a “Check for update” button in the About Chrome window, though it also automatically finds and downloads updates.
Are users, i.e. “us,” too dumb and lazy to be trusted with the task?
