Hands on with the Appfall screensaver

What’s hot and fresh on Apple’s game changing iPhone and iPad App Stores? Well, there’s an app for that app. The latest twist on discovering software is a new screensaver from Majic Jungle, the creators of my current favorite Mac game, Chopper 2.
The concept behind Appfall (Mac App Store, $0.99) is pretty simple — clickable icons of the day’s most popular, best selling, top grossing, free and paid apps on the iPhone and iPad App Stores “fall” into a view that’s similar to Apple’s WWDC 2010 “app wall.”
That said there are a couple of odd things about Appfall. First, it’s not a screensaver in the traditional sense as it runs like a normal app (i.e. appears in the Dock).
Second, unlike traditional screensavers, you can’t configure hot corners and there’s no password protection.
Lastly, Appfall also features two integrated games — Blocks (a.k.a. Tetris) and App Command (a.k.a. Missile Command). Cleverly enough, the images used in these simple graphic games are app icons.
A floor wax AND dessert topping!
So, Appfall is really a powerful quad action, four-in-one application with software discovery, screensaver and two fun-cool classic games all wrapped around a chewy 21st Century nougat center.
Now how much would you pay? Well, it’s just $0.99 on the Mac App Store.
I’m holding out for a set free steak knives…
What’s your take?
