Everybody needs a little help with Mac OS X system maintenance. Yes, you can do it yourself, but with so many great utilities available there’s simply no reason to. Whether you’re running Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard, Cocktail has you covered.

Maintain has shipped Cocktail 4.9.2 (no release notes) and it addresses a number of headline issues, including removing MacDefender which recently grabbed headlines and reminded knowledgeable folks just how happy we should be that we don’t use Windows:

Adobe Save up to $100 on Lightroom 3• Improvements on the clear potentially harmful files procedure
• Added clearing of the latest variants of the MAC Defender (Mac Protector, Mac Security) trojan
• Added the “Purge Inactive Memory” Automator action
• Other minor bug fixes
