Digital magazines on the iPad get a lot of press, some good and quite a bit not so positive. Whereas I have my favorites, including Richard Branson’s slickly produced, über cool Project, you can count the number of hit iPad magazines on one hand. However, even if you never buy another digital magazine for your Apple tablet, Fortune’s current issue is an absolute must read.

Jobs himself believes he has set Apple on a course to survive in his absence. He has created a culture that, while not particularly jolly, has internalized his ways — Adam Lashinsky, Fortune.

Fortune Magazine (iTunes, free) is talk of the town — it’s only place you can Fortune’s extensive and well-written Inside Apple, How America’s most successful — and secretive — big company really works ($4.99 via in-app purchase).

There’s a huge amount of new information, not to mention sound-bitable quotes, here and I’m loving it…
