iMac EFI Update 1.6 boosts SATA to 6Gbps
Other World Computing reports that there’s more to Apple’s iMac EFI Update 1.6 (6.1MB) than just “fixes that improve performance and stability for Thunderbolt.”
Specifically, the Mac peripheral and add-on reseller discovered that iMac EFI Update 1.6 also unlocks the full 6Gbp throughput potential of SATA 3.0 capabilities in two of the the Early 2011 iMac’s drive bays. Unfortunately, the optical bay remains at 3Gbps.
A little of this, a little of that
Apple’s also delivered the Mac OS X 10.6.7 for Early 2011 iMac (382.56MB), which addresses a number of reliability, compatibility and device support issues:
— Improve the reliability of Back to My Mac
— Resolve an issue when transferring files to certain SMB servers
— Address various minor Mac App Store bugs
— Address minor FaceTime performance issues
— Address issues with graphics stability and 3D performance
— Improve external display compatibility
— Improve Thunderbolt device support
Apple announced and shipped the Early 2011 iMac on Tuesday of this week.
