iTunes trailer outages hint NC data center

Fans of Apple’s iTunes (nee QuickTime) Movie Trailers page have likely noted that it’s been catch-as-catch-can over the last week or so. You’re often greeted by the above notice and even the links that are still visible lead to trailer-less pages. So much for wasting time that way…

The obvious explanation for the outages is that the mothership is doing work under the hood, updating the service — just some workaday housekeeping.

Normally, this kind of activity, or lack thereof, wouldn’t attract any attention. However, with Apple’s North Carolina data center, which most believe will serve music and movie files via a new cloud-based service, expected to come online any day now, this is just the latest hint that something big is coming and likely soon.

Thereupon, Apple’s current iTunes Movie Trailer website excels at delivering all of the new trailers in one place with minimal fuss. Here’s hoping the mothership doesn’t screw that up by folding it the ever growing bloat that is the iTunes application…
