Airport, Time Capsule out of stock

The online Apple Store is still displaying 24-hour shipping. However, users around the US, and not for the first time in recent memory, are reporting widespread spot shortages of Airport Extreme, Airport Express and Time Capsule products brick n’ mortar Apple Store locations.

As the current models were introduced way back in October 2009, it would certainly seem time enough has passed for a refresh — competitive third-party products sell for half the price. However, little if anything has advanced in the wi-fi realm in recent years.

That said, with CEO Steve Jobs to announce the iCloud online service next week at WWDC and streaming music — perhaps movies and TV shows, too — on tap, Apple may be looking to release updated Airport and Time Capsule products sprinkled with magic iCloud pixie dust. That is, if you don’t have Apple wi-fi gear, you won’t be able to get the full (or any?) iCloud experience.

Pure speculation on my part — reasonable?
