Google Apps dropping Safari 3.x support

Time may heal wounds, but it generally breaks software. Thereupon, searchzilla is advising Google Apps users that it’s dropping support for legacy versions of the big four browsers this Summer. They’re also warning that these older browsers won’t play well with their other cloud services, such as Gmail.
Google Enterprise Blog has given noticed that from August 1, 2011 Google Apps will no longer support Safari 3.x, which was introduced at Macworld San Francisco 2007. Google’s also dropping Firefox 3.5 and Internet Explorer 7.x.
For web applications to spring even farther ahead of traditional software, our teams need to make use of new capabilities available in modern browsers. For example, desktop notifications for Gmail and drag-and-drop file upload in Google Docs require advanced browsers that support HTML5. Older browsers just don’t have the chops…
Upgrade Safari right now:
— Safari 5.0.5 (OS X 10.6.5)
— Safari 5.0 (OS X 10.5.8)
— Safari 4.1 (Tiger)
If you’re using Firefox 3.6, IE 8 or Safari 4 or later, you’re good to go. Further, Google’s announced a policy whereby it will only support the current and one previous versions (i.e. Safari v4.x, v5.x) of the mainline browsers.
Additionally, with these older browsers you may have trouble using certain features in Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Talk, Google Docs and Google Sites — eventually these apps may stop working entirely on legacy browsers.
Is there any reasonable reason for anyone to insist on staying with Safari 3.x?
