1Password 3.7 addresses Safari 5.1 issues
Revolutions are rarely bloodless and the release Mac OS X Lion has caused a lot of upheaval, though the effects vary considerably. That said, if you’re a 1Password user, this update appears to hit all of the important issues created by the release of Lion and Safari 5.1.
Whereas Adobe and Microsoft are promising fixes somewhere down the road, Agile Bits has pushed out 1Password 3.7 (release notes):
Changed: Improved Safari extension, added support for “1Password > Preferences > Logins > Avoid Autosave on These Domains”.
Changed: Added Universal Unlock in Safari 5.1.
Changed: Added Copy-to-Clipboard button in Safari 5.1.
Changed: Improved Autosubmit (requires “System Preferences > Universal Access > Enabled access for assistive devices”).
Changed: Added Help > Troubleshooting > Restart Agent menu.
Changed: Removed lock1p utility. 1Password can now be locked from command line using ‘open x-onepassword-agent://lock’ command.
Fixed: Fixed problem with Autolock in Safari 5.1 when running as a non-admin user.
Fixed: Improved error handling in Wi-Fi sync.

Unfortunately, this has NOT solved the problem when using Safari 5.1 with Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
I still end up having to open 1Password — not just the plug-in — and then copy the information piecemeal into the user name and password boxes.
So — problem still not very well solved.
Have you done the one-time manual install of the 5.1 plugin?

Yes — did that before making my comment.
What is going on with 1Password. This was a great tool and they keep monkeying around with the software and now it’s awful.
It’s not so much that Agile is monkeying around with 1Password, Mike. It’s that Apple monkeyed around with OS X and Safari to provide users with features in Lion such as full screen capability, and forced a major rewrite away from plugins. Though they’re not complaining, from Agile’s perspective this is kind of a nightmare. There’s no upside in this for them, unless you want to call the fact that other alternatives (such as LastPass) are in even worse shape “good news.”
I am having problems using one password with https sites. The 1P button just grays out and cannot be used.
I even had a problem completing the personal data on THIS website form. It would not insert my email address.
