HTML5 jobs rise, Flash postings decline

Some people talk about the death of Adobe Flash. Then there are those doing the killing — companies hiring for HTML5 coding projects. A new, independent report out of Oz shows what we have all suspected for some time, though it might be a little early to pick a grave plot.
Freelance.com, an Australian concern dedicated to matching job seekers with those offering work, reports that HTML5 jobs jumped from 604 in the first quarter to 807 in the second, a big 34 percent sequential increase. In fact, the company says that positions seeking HTML5 coders outgrew postings seeking Google Adsense, Android and Academic Writing skills combined.
This is hardly surprising given the chorus of support the still work-in-progress standard has received from industry stalwarts, like Steve Jobs and Mozilla product honcho Jay Sullivan. Highlighting HTML5′s rise is Arcade Fire’s recent Wilderness Downtown win at the Cannes Festival.
Although postings seeking workers with Adobe Flash skills are still far more numerous, 3,095 listings last quarter, Freelance.com notes that those have declined by 10 percent. In simple numeric terms, however, Flash’s 300-plus decline is bigger than HTML5′s 203 unit rise — cool.
Call me a hater, but Flash’s demise can’t come soon enough…
