Skype 5.2.0.1572 offers minor improvements

Until Skype v5.x shipped, FaceTime sat in my Applications folder utterly unloved. Now, Apple’s video conferencing app gets used a couple times a week and Skype not so much, though I’m still religious about keeping up with the updates in the vain hope that real change has finally been delivered.

If you just read the bullet points, you don’t get the sense of urgency implied by the words Skype 5.2 for Mac Hotfix (blog):

Download 25 FREE songs at eMusic.com!• Updated localizations
• The removal of “Professional Account”
• Minor improvements

Digging through Skype.com and searching Google doesn’t reveal anything scary (i.e. worthy of a “hot fix”), but Skype wouldn’t be the first company to gloss over terrible things buried their code. Then again, compared to this app’s user interface, what could be in worse need of repair?

Of course, Skype for Mac’s user interface is painfully unchanged…

Skype is now owned by Microsoft. That’s where the lion share of development and focus will be going forward.
