Lightroom 3.5 adds cameras; fixes Lion, Facebook bugs

Life is like a software update. You never know what you’re gonna get. It’s been a mixed year for Adobe, which has seen its once dominant Flash lose out to HTML5 while Premier and Lightroom gained ground on competing Apple products.

Thereupon, Adobe informs the goal of this release is to provide additional camera raw support, lens profile support and address bugs that were introduced in previous releases of Lightroom.

Here’s some of what is new in Lightroom 3.5 (release notes, pdf):

Apple Store• Support for 20+ new camera models, including the Nikon Coolpix P7100, Olympus E-PL3 and Sony SLT-A77
• In Mac OS X Lion, the Lightroom import dialog did not properly display network volumes
• Fixed tether capture failures on Macs running OS X 10.6.8, OS X 10.7
• Lightroom would not provide the correct error message when attempting to delete photos published to Facebook
• Saving metadata to a JPEG file in Lightroom 3.4 could have caused Lightroom to quit unexpectedly

I had hoped that Lightroom 3.5 would fix the problem that since Lion I can no longer tether my Canon 5D to Lightroom. I’ve downloaded and installed 3.5 but sadly the problem is still there, tethered shooting does not work in Lion with Lightroom 3.5. My next step is to download aperture – after having all versions of Lightroom since 1.0!
