Though the fundamental issue afflicting Skype 5 — user interface — remains the same, the company has increased the rate at which fixes and feature tweaks, both good things, has increased. What’s new in the release? Step inside for the details.

If you just read the bullet points, you don’t get the sense of urgency implied by the wordsSkype 5.3 for Mac Hotfix (blog). Nevertheless, if you’re among the affected, this is critical stuff:

• Sometimes Skype crashed during video calls

• Fixes a problem in Norwegian localization which could lead to client freeze

Digging through Skype.com and searching Google doesn’t reveal anything scary (i.e. worthy of a “hot fix”), but Skype wouldn’t be the first company to gloss over terrible things buried their code. Then again, compared to this app’s user interface, what could be in worse need of repair?

Of course, Skype for Mac’s user interface is painfully unchanged by this patch…

What’s your take?
