It’s time to play, ‘What’s the widget?’
For months, people have been talking about the eventuality of an Amazon tablet and how it will totally rain on Apple’s mobile preeminence. Well, we haven’t seen the device, but we now have an anticipated date for the arrival of this latest iPad killer.
And the rest of us are just tourists. All Things D got an invite from Amazon for a special event to be held in New York City on Wednesday, September 28.
That’s right in the meat of the news cycle, which means the tourists have the whole weekend as well as two business days and change to talk it up. Big brains at Amazon, bigguns.
But what is the device? Educated guessers suggest Amazon’s shooting for a good enough tablet tagged at $250.
That is, something a bit better than as Barnes & Noble’s Color Nook that plays reasonably high-end games and HD video, but not nearly as costly or complex as the Xoom, TouchPad or Playbook. And, if they give away some passably restricted version of 3G with it for that price, it’s gonna be a unstoppable…
