Lots of folks have quoted Ive’s speech to Apple coworkers and the gathered digerati at the company’s 1 Infinite Loop campus on Wednesday, October 19. Now, you can watch the design genius deliver his emotive address, snarky humor and all — yeah, he’s complicated, too.

Apple has posted the full 81 minute Celebration of Steve’s Life event held at the company’s global headquarters, which was headlined by CEO Tim Cook, Vice President Al Gore, Cold play and Nora Jones — an extraordinary day.

I was very encouraged to hear that Jony Ive is being given his due, both at Apple and with those who watch the company. In many ways, I’ve seen Jony as the other side of Steve; he’s designer who brought the ideas into the world. Face it, Steve could never have designed and built the products we know and love without Jony as his hands or his mind as a foil. There’s was a solid collaboration, for sure. I don’t slight Steve’s influence, but without Steve to bounce ideas off, I think Jony has channeled his muse to keep designing insanely great stuff. So, when I see a strong, young, feisty Jony Ive standing before Apple’s staff extolling the wonders of great design, I’m thoroughly heartened. Apple has a solid future as long as Jony is given his due by the rest of the management team.
