Holiday screensavers for OS X Lion

28 November 2011 5,255 views One Comment

There just aren’t a lot of screensavers that are compatible with OS X 10.7 and fewer still with a Christmas or Winter theme. Here are seven screensavers that run on Lion and they’re all to varying degrees free (caveat emptor) for the taking.

• LotsaSnow (download)
— A pleasant if slightly slow flurry of flakes for your Mac
— Dual monitor compatible
— See also: Falling Snow for Snow Leopard and earlier
• White (MacUpdate download)
— Glacially subtle, which may or may not be your cup of tea
— Works, oddly subtle; dual monitor compatible
• Santa and the City 3D (download)
— 3D renderings that exhibit a respectable level of care
— Dual monitor compatible

Screensavers listed as dual monitor capable display different image streams to each monitor. Other less capable products just mirror.

• Shining Snowflakes (MacUpdate download)
— This screensaver might not run properly on your Mac (caveat emptor)
— Mirrored display on dual monitors
• Frosted (download)
— Celebrate winter with your very own digital snowman
— Dual monitor compatible, loads slow (Flash)
• Gingerbread Cookies (download)
— More than a little garish, which isn’t out of character with the season
— Dual monitor compatible
• A Very 3D Christmas
— Plays well enough, yet has the visual appeal of 3D on Windows NT
— Mirrored display on dual monitors
