Songbird 1.10.1 boosts device support

If you’re a Mac user, but don’t have an iOS powered device, this is the way to get your music onto your Blackberry, Android or whatever. It’s a relatively elegant solution to an inelegant pairing of devices, and perhaps best of all it’s free and open source.
Songbird has announced Songbird 1.10.1 (release notes), a fairly substantial update of the extensible third-party music syncing and playback app for (mostly) non-Apple handheld devices.
• Two-way synchronization between devices and the Songbird library and, by extension, iTunes
• Automatic organization of downloaded and ripped files into an Artist/Album filesystem hierarchy.
• The PlaylistCommandsBuilders interface has been deprecated. Add-on developers should use the new playlist commands interface
• List of compatible devices, includes Blackberry Storm 9500, Google Nexus One, HTC Evo, HTC Hero, HTC Magic, HTC Tattoo, LG KU990 Viewty, Motorola Droid, Motorola Droid X and Nokia N85
“We turned our sights towards improving device support in this release,” writes Songbird’s Ali. “Our end goal was to break out of the old erase-and-sync model to create a compelling, intuitive two-way sync experience between your portable device and any number of desktop computers running Songbird.”
