I found out what really happened here. Installing this screensaver merely revealed a problem that was already there with Lion, iPhoto, and desktop pictures. More details at:

I have reinstalled hyperspace, and it works without problem, Dennis

I installed hyperspace, the screensaver preference opened, but was blank. I clicked on desktop pictures, and system preferences crashed. It crashes again when opening desktop & screensaver preferences.

I trashed the file, I also tried trashing com.apple.desktop.plist (and screensaver.plist), still system preferences is crashing when I try to open desktop & screensaver preferences. What happened??
