Nomenclature can be deceiving — this particular patch looks like a simple dot fix, but there’s more here than you might expect. From new major language localizations to support for PDF files, you need to get this update.

Amazon has released Kindle for Mac 1.8.3 (download), which comes to market with two significant new features, as well as tweaked trio tweaks of existing functionality:

• Support for Kindle Print Replica (i.e. watermarked) content, which look like the corresponding print book with words and images in the position corresponding to the print edition
• Support for reading most PDF files within the Kindle application, including functionality such as zoom and pan, highlighting, note taking, dictionary lookup, and bookmarks
• Localized app language in French, Spanish, Italian, and Brazilian Portuguese
• Support for collections allows you to take control of your Kindle library and organize your books with ease
• Shelfari Book Extras: Access character descriptions, important places, popular quotations, themes, and book-specific glossaries

Kindle for Mac is available on the Mac App Store (free), which offers automagical updates.
