What’s new in iTunes 10.5.3

A mere wisp of an update, wafer thin, a teeny tiny one. As iTunes updates go, this one’s pretty darned light both in terms of weight (10.5MB) and new features. Nevertheless, as it brings iBooks 2 syncing to iTunes, this is an important point release for iPad and other idevice owners taking advantage of Apple’s new interactive digital textbooks.
On Thursday, Apple held a major media event at New York’s Guggenheim Museum that detailed its latest revolution, which is all about reinventing textbooks — take in the event in its entirety.
A generally unremarked part of the iBooks textbook rollout is iTunes 10.5.3 (download). This lightweight update allows iPad and other idevice owners with iBooks 2 installed to sync interactive iBooks textbooks with the connected Mac.
This particular iTunes point release comes to market without any new security patches — the most recent iTunes security update arrived baked into v10.5.1.
iTunes 10.5.3 is also available for Windows (64 bit).
