Mac utilities come and go with OS X releases, and Lion has left a lot of broken apps in its wake. TechTool Pro and Lion Cache Cleaner have both been updated on the day and date Apple issued a rather beefy point-update, laden with security tweaks, of OS X Lion.

A platform staple since the late ’90s, this go to hardware diagnostic, drive repair and daily maintenance app has been updated for Apple’s latest big cat with TechTool Pro 6.0.4 (blog, Read Me [pdf]) now available for download with the following fixes and features:

• Improvement to Volume Rebuild/Repair routines
• Enhancements and fixes in the Surface Scan test
• Fixed an eDrive and Spotlight volume unmounting issue
• Added ability to Wipe Free Space on an active system volume in Wipe Data
• Significant improvements and updates to the Local Network tool for Bonjour enabled devices
• Improved support of Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) FileVault encrypted and RAID volumes in TechTool Protection
• Updated, fixed localization issues in French, Italian, German, Japanese and Simplified Chinese
• Included additional machine identification models to Check Computer
• Updated Growl support

For its part, Lion Cache Cleaner 6.0.8 brings compatibility with OS X 10.7.3. This is my go to tool for maintaining and optimizing my Mac about once a week — it’s easy-to-use and very free.
