Finally. It took two years to come to the fairer platform, but the rest of us are patient lot. The wait is nonetheless over and BioShock 2 for Mac is available here and now (clip below the fold), but not all Macs meet the minimum specs and the vendors selling this Feral Interactive titles have their own unique advantages.

Deep within the ruined undersea city of Rapture, your beloved Little Sister, awaits your return. As he Big Daddy, you protected her from a world of insanely selfish adults, now you must shield her again from those who demand that everything must be sharedFeral Interactive.

First off, even before you consider suiting up to save Little Sister, BioShock 2 requires a Mac running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 with a 2GHz Intel processor, at least 4GB RAM and a multi-button mouse. Further, you will need a graphics card with 256MB or more memory. Which ones are those? It’s perhaps easier to tell you which cards aren’t compatible — ATI X1xxx series, ATI HD2xxx series, NVIDIA 9400, NVIDIA 7xxx series and Intel GMA series are not up to snuff. Further, if you’ve got an nVidia 320M or Intel HD 3000 equipped Mac, you will need the aforementioned 4GB of RAM.

That out of the way, comes the shopping:

Mac App Store ($30.99, download)
— Sales tax most likely applies
— Those wonderful automagical updates and cloud backup
— Install on up to five Macs

• Amazon DVD ($34.99, free ground)
— Sales tax most likely does not apply
— You’ve got the disk in your hands

• Amazon download ($30.99)
— Same price as the Mac App Store with no sales tax
Similar terms and conditions as the Mac App Store

• Small Dog Electronics ($31.99, $4.99 ground)
— No sales tax
— You support a third-party reseller

• MacGameStore ($30.99, download)
— Option to get a DVD backup copy for $7.95 (shipped) and a free (download) copy of Luxor HD
— You support a third-party reseller

I am a big, big fan of the Mac App Store, but there are other considerations. For example, Amazon nets you a lower sans sales tax price with online backup. Some of you may prefer owning a physical copy, which can be resold and there’s always the feel good one gets by buying from an independent reseller (a.k.a. a human being) rather than a big company.

Ready to play? Which vendor’s offer do you find most attractive?
