First Walmart Apple store-witin-a-store opens
Ever heard of Lowell, Arkansas? The bustling borough of 7,500 is an exit off Interstate 540 — just 20 minutes up the road from the retail giant’s headquarters — and is home to the world’s first Apple store-within-a-store inside a Walmart — some rumors do indeed come true to a degree.
According to Gary Allen’s ever informative ifoAppleStore, the new displays (second photo below the fold) could be the prototype for a rumored expansion of in-store Apple displays across the Walton retail empire, including Sam’s Club.
The displays feature tall, double-sided, back-lit graphics, a clean-looking wood table, live display products and under-table accessory storage with security glass. The new look updates previous Apple product displays within Walmart stores that have been notoriously small, invisible and poorly maintained.
Well, now Apple’s Walmart/Sam’s Club displays will larger, better designed and, forgive my cynicism, just as mungey as before. Nevertheless, a larger display area even with the same iPod-iPhone-iPad product array will be a welcome addition to my local Walmart, which is close by.
It was previously rumored that Macs would be sold at these store-within-a-store displays. Perhaps Sam’s Club will offer them…
